The children really enjoyed the day. The activities were very relevant and gave children a good insight into what setting up and running a business involves.

At Cressing Primary School in Braintree we achieved Healthy Schools Status a number of years ago but are always looking for ways to support and develop this further. Last September Tracey and Jackie from Fruit to Suit came in to school and spent the day training our Year 5 and Year 6 children. By the end of the enjoyable day we had established a company, tasted snacks and organised the roles that the children would be taking on to run the business in school.
The Tuck shop has been a great success, the children love the range of products, the fruit drinks have been particularly popular and the parents have been very supportive of the venture. Several local schools have also visited us and then decided to take on the tuck shop in their own schools.
A year on and we haven't looked back, it has gone from strength to strength making a profit of £400 in its first year of business. The children have enjoyed taking on the responsibilities and have decided to spend the money purchasing new lunchtime play equipment which in turn has meant that lunchtimes have been more active and enjoyable for the children and the supervising staff.
In September we spent an afternoon with the now Year 6 children helping to train the new Year 5 children in the various roles and we are now looking ahead to another a successful and prosperous year of business for our Funky Fruit Tuck Shop.

Thanks for Friday. I was really impressed with the file the kids got and how well organised it all is. I can really see huge educational benefits from the shop and am looking forward to getting going!

The fruit to suit enterprise was introduced at Greasby Junior School in March 2009.
The team clearly gain much on a personal level, learning fantastic skills I am sure will be useful in later life. As for our school, we have a healthy tuck shop, whereby all of our children have access to a changing range of healthy snacks every day.
I would not hesitate in recommending the introduction of the fruit to suit enterprise.
Miss G Rowlands, Year 5 Leader, Greasby Junior School
Thank you so much for all your hard work. The children thoroughly enjoyed the workshops you provided and have learnt a great deal about the many roles and responsibilities involved in the setting up and running a small business. Over the course of the two, half-day sessions it was wonderful to observe the skills and communication develop as the children learned about the products; worked together to promote the product; experienced how to use a spreadsheet; assessed and nominated each other for key roles.
Now, several weeks into running the tuck shop, the managers and also others not directly involved, have not lost enthusiasm. I am extrmely pleased with the service you provided and would recommend it to all schools.
Oxton St Saviours
The training really involved the pupils and got them to be creative and come up with ideas.
It allowed discussion, mind mapping, working out each others strengths and the importance of working as a team.
St Andrews RC Primary, Lambeth
It will continue to promote healthy eating within the school. It will also build up the childrens independence, giving them more responsibility.
St Josephs Primary, Croydon
The class thoroughly enjoyed the day and activities were appropriately catered so all children to be involved. I would definitely recommend it to other schools.
