Five-minute banana recipe ideas

If you have children, giving them a sweet treat is easy if you have some bananas on hand. Not only are they nutritious, but they are wonderfully filling, so these recipe ideas are not just for kids.

There are loads of banana recipes out there, but the chances are that you are short on time, so we have focused on the ones you can make quickly.

Using a microwave, you can make banana muffins in just five minutes. It is possible to make gluten free versions too.

There are many different variations of this recipe, so you just need to look online to find one that suits you and your family.

To make biscuits, all you have to do is to mash a ripe, medium-sized banana into a cup of oats. Then, use a spoon to create biscuit shapes on a microwave proof plate or tray. After this, put them in the microwave on high for a minute.

They will taste great and have a lovely chewy texture, but you can add raisins and nuts if you like.

Make a bigger batch and you can create flapjacks. You will need to turn your oven on and bake them the mixture for around 20 minutes at 175°C (350F).

A banana is a perfect base for a smoothie, while you can add other fruits for contrasting flavour.

Banana chips

These take longer than five minutes, but most of that time is waiting for the chips to come out of the oven. It takes no time at all to slice the bananas into discs and lay them on a tray lined with baking paper. Then just drizzle over water and lemon, before baking them for 60-90 minutes at 175-200°F/80-95°C.

For most of these recipes, if you do not have bananas you can substitute apple puree. Provided you make it from fresh apples without adding any sugar, it is every bit as healthy as bananas.
