Short-term business ideas with Christmas in mind

At Christmas, we all spend more than normal, which means that the chance to earn a bit more is always welcome. With this in mind, we’ve put together a list of short-term business ideas that could help you to earn before Christmas.

Several of them are related to making money from the fact that people spend more at Christmas. Targeting products and services people need for the festive season is a great way of making extra cash for a few months.

Make products to sell

Making products that can be sold as presents is a great way to earn some extra cash. If you are handy at crafts, you can make a huge range of products that will sell well just before Christmas. As you would expect, decorations and handmade cards sell particularly well. You can sell most of the things you make online, at markets, or boot sales, as well as to friends, neighbours, and family. We do advice to make sure you are on the right side of tax laws, however, and to speak to HM Revenue & Customs if you are in any doubt.

Providing people with festive food items that are difficult or time-consuming to make can also be lucrative. There is strong demand for Christmas cake and puddings. Canapés and nibbles sell especially well in the weeks leading up to Christmas because of the parties people hold in the run-up to December 25.

Offer services

At such a busy time of year, many people are looking for a little extra help. You might find work as a personal shopper, cook, or decorator.

There is also demand for spring cleaning. Most people who are expecting guests clean their home more thoroughly, so demand for cleaning services goes up.

These are just a few ideas. In addition, there are plenty of part-time or short-contract jobs that come around as December approaches.
