Three ways busy mums can make money

When you are a mum, there are many challenges. As well as looking after everyone, you may also need to work. However, for mums, a nine-to-five job is often not a practical option. Even a regular part-time job can make it impossible to be there for your children when you need to be.

However, there are ways to earn money that fit in better with the needs of your family. Here are our top three suggestions:

1. Work online

If you have a good broadband connection, you can work online. Writing, transcription, user testing websites and forum moderation are just a few of the ways to make money from behind your computer screen.

2. Sell on eBay or Amazon

Online selling fits in well, because it can be done at any time of the day or night. You can make money from selling your old items on eBay, but if you need a regular income, selling new goods is the way to go.

All you need to do is to identify a market and buy some stock from a wholesaler, or create something yourself. You then list it on a site like eBay or Amazon. If you use Amazon, you have the chance to have the stock delivered to the company’s warehouse and let the staff there take care of delivering the goods on your behalf.

3. Telesales

If you have a sales or marketing background, telesales may be for you. There are literally hundreds of firms who need telesales staff. Increasingly, they are taking on home workers.

Normally, you do not have set work hours. However, you will have targets. For example, you may need to contact a certain number of people every day or week. Most firms also require you to hit a sales target.

Some of the above suggestions require a little startup money and you may have to learn a few new skills, as well as make sure that you are staying in HMRC’s good books. However, it is easier than you might think to find work that fits in with family life.
