Top tips for getting your kids to exercise

We all know that it is important for our kids to exercise, but we often struggle to get them up and moving. Fortunately, getting them moving is the hard part; once your kids get the exercise bug, keeping them still is usually the problem rather than getting them to exercise.

Here are a few tips to help your kids to take more exercise and enjoy doing it:

Make it fun

The key to all things with children is making things as enjoyable as possible. Getting up and taking the kids out with a ball, wrestling with them, going swimming or taking a bike ride are great ways of spending quality time together. It soon becomes fun for everyone, and is the most natural thing in the world.

Set a good example

If you are active, your kids are far more likely to be active too. This can be achieved by joining in with their games and simply not being seen to be a couch potato. Make sure you come across as an active parent.

Support them

If your son or daughter expresses an interest in dance lessons or playing football, try to get them into a class or club as soon as possible. It might be a passing fad, but the important thing is to get them moving and keep them moving.

If you are on a tight budget train, them yourself to get them started. If necessary, ask friends and family to help with this.

Have healthy holidays

Beach holidays are great, but try to make sure you do not just lie on the beach. Plan one or two days of activity or make sure the kids try watersports.

On holiday, everyone is more relaxed and has the time to try new activities, so take the chance to introduce your children to fun physical activities. Making one holiday an activity holiday is a great way to get your kids in shape.
